Strong Quality Basketball Association FAQ’s

Q.            What is SQBA?

A.             Strong Quality Basketball Association (SQBA) is a non-profit organization of people with the common interest of bringing youth together in a positive environment and experiencing competitive organized basketball.

Q.            What Kind of Events Does SQBA Offer?

A.             SQBA offers several events, tournaments, leagues and teams for participants to compete on.  SQBA offers summer travel teams from March through August which travel across the nation and compete against the highest level of competition and receive the highest level of exposure.  Also in the summer SQBA offers the “Unsigned Hype Classic” which allows exposure to unsigned high school seniors and Junior College players from Virginia and from around the country.  SQBA also holds regular workouts for student athletes to sharpen their skills and prepare them for higher level of play.

Q.            How Can SQBA help my son or Daughter?

A.             Participants can expect the highest level of competition, exposure, coaching, and tradition in the country.  SQBA travel teams compete in some of the strongest tournaments in the nation and against the highest level of competition around the country. SQBA student athletes receive exposure to college coaches in several tournaments and camps.  SQBA builds relationships and works with several institutions of higher education to allow the best opportunities for our student athletes. SQBA also provides several developmental workouts which gives each participant a chance to develop and improve their individual skills, and also gain valuable playing experience.   SQBA strongly believes in academics over athletics and promotes and emphasizes that importance to every student athlete.

Q.            Who can participate in SQBA events?

A.             SQBA believes each individual deserves the opportunity to better him or herself  as a citizen, student, and athlete.  However, SQBA is not for student athletes who are not interested and dedicated to the highest level of basketball and education and who are not looking to be apart of a much disciplined basketball organization.

Q.            What is AAU?

A.             The Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) is a non-profit organization divided up into areas called “associations.”  Each association participates in a well-structured and monitored age-group tournament.  The national tournaments run for seven to nine days during June, July, or August.  Players must show and official copy of their birth certificate at each association event and pay a membership fee for an AAU card.  The association tournaments take place after the High School season ends in March or April. SQBA is currently in the Virginia AAU association.
